Fulbright Commission in Egypt Celebrates National Environment Day

The Ministry of Environment in collaboration with The Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt hosted a webinar on Green Cities and Sustainable Development entitled “Circular Economy as a Tool for Greening Cities”. The webinar which focused on the successful models of recycling in the United States, Egypt, and Finland as well as developing innovative waste use cycles was led by Dr. Foster Agblevor, Director of the Bioenergy Center at Utah State University and Fulbright U.S. Distinguished Scholar. The webinar which was attended by administrators and members of 16 branches of the Environmental Affairs Agency nationwide was held in collaboration with the Office of Professor Essameldin Amer, Head of the Regional Branches Sector at the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency, and coordinated by Eng. Abeer Halawa, Director General of Environmental Action Plans for Industrial Estates and Cities.

The 27th of January commemorates the issuing of the first Environmental Protection Law in Egypt in 1994 that aims to raise awareness regarding environmental cases and challenges; encourage citizens to adopt positive behaviors towards the environment; face national environmental challenges and conserve natural resources for future generations.

The Fulbright team led by Executive Director Dr. Maggie Nassif and accompanied by Ms. Mai Ayyad, Senior Program Officer, gave an information session on Fulbright opportunities for scholars, professionals, and graduate students to travel from Egypt to the U.S. and to host American scholars to teach and engage in projects and research in Egypt.

استضافت وزارة البيئة بالشراكة مع هيئة فولبرايت بمصر ندوة إلكترونية حول المدن الخضراء والتنمية المستدامة.

وتحدثت الندوة وعنوانها “الإقتصاد الدائري كأداه لتخضير المدن” عن نماذج ناجحة لتدوير المخلفات في الولايات المتحدة ومصر وفنلندا وتطوير دورات مبتكرة لاستخدام النفايات.

وقام بالقاء الندوة الدكتور/ فوستر آري أجبلفورمدير مركز الطاقة الحيوية بجامعة ولاية يوتا وأستاذ فولبرايت المتميز وتم اللقاء تحت إشراف الدكتور/ عصام عامر رئيس قطاع شئون الفروع بجهاز شئون البيئة وبتنسيق المهندسة/ عبير حلاوة مدير عام خطط العمل البيئي للمدن والمناطق الصناعية، وبحضور مديرين وأعضاء 16 فرع لجهاز شئون البيئة في محافظات مصر المختلفة.

ويحتفي يوم 27 يناير بصدور أول قانون لحماية البيئة في مصر في عام 1994 ويهدف إلى رفع الوعي بالقضايا والتحديات البيئية، وتشجيع المواطنين على تبني سلوكيات إيجابية تجاه البيئة ومواجهة التحديات البيئيه الوطنية وصون الموارد الطبيعية من أجل الأجيال القادمة.

وقام فريق فولبرايت مصر بقيادة الدكتورة/ ماجي نصيف المدير التنفيذي وبصحبتها الأستاذة/ مي عياد مسئول برامج أول بتقديم عرض تعريفي عن فرص فولبرايت لسفر الأساتذة والمهنيين وطلاب الدراسات العليا من جمهورية مصر العربية إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية واستضافة الأساتذة الأمريكيين للتدريس والمشاركة في المشاريع والابحاث في مصر.
