Fulbright American Student Program


Program Goal

Provides opportunities for doctoral degree candidates in the U.S. to conduct research in Egypt. Ideal candidates are serious, research oriented individuals, who have well thought-out research projects that can be reasonably accomplished in nine months. Candidates who present research projects showing specific knowledge of Egypt, the Arabic language and/or the region, or Islam, for example, will have a better grasp of research possibilities.

Note: The U.S. Student Program to Egypt has been suspended through the 2017-2018 academic year. We are accepting applications for 2019-2020 academic year. Potential applicants for 2019-2020 should discuss the status of the U.S. Fulbright Program to Egypt with IIE (FBstudent.MENA@iie.org or 1.800.272.6994) before applying.

Eligible Fields:  All fields are eligible.

Eligibility Criteria

  • U.S. citizenship at the time of application
  • Ph.D. candidate in the U.S.
  • Sufficient proficiency in written and spoken Arabic to conduct the proposed study
