FULBRIGHT U.S. STUDENT PROGRAM – Arabic Language Study Grants at CAASIC
Award Description
The Fulbright U.S. Student Program and the Center for Advanced Arabic Study in Cairo (CAASIC) are accepting applications to the Fulbright Arabic Language Study Grants at CAASIC for academic year 2027-2028. Applicants applying for this award must have an acceptance letter for the CAASIC Program Fall and Spring 9-month option. Applications that do not include an acceptance letter will not be considered.
Award Goal
CAASIC is an intensive Arabic language program designed for students from the United States with high levels of Arabic proficiency to attend the American University in Cairo (AUC) to advance their Arabic language fluency. This program offers a rigorous academic and immersive experience in the culture of Egypt and the Middle East.

Grant Dates
- Grants start in September 2027, with an end date in May 2028.
- Grant dates must align with the academic calendar of the host institution and the CAASIC 9-month Fall and Spring program.
Candidate Profile
Applicants should be advanced Arabic language learners who have successfully completed their undergraduate studies at the time of application, meet the CAASIC language proficiency requirements, and have been accepted into a structured program of study at CAASIC at the American University in Cairo.
Applicants must provide a well-substantiated justification for pursuing advanced-level study of the Arabic language. They must clearly demonstrate why advanced proficiency is essential for their professional trajectory and how it serves their identified career goals. Moreover, the program is a good fit for individuals who demonstrate sensitivity to the current geopolitical situation in the region and who are committed to mutual understanding and cultural exchange that embody the spirit of the Fulbright Program.
The award is open for bachelor’s degree holders who would have graduated by October 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be citizens or nationals of the United States of America at the time of the application deadline. Permanent residents are not eligible.

- Applicants must provide a letter of acceptance from CAASIC (Fulbright Grant at CAASIC, Fall and Spring 9-months program option) for academic year 2027-2028.
- Department of State employees and their immediate family: Employees and their immediate families (i.e. spouses and dependent children) of the Fulbright Commission in Egypt, the U.S. Department of State, and of public or private organizations under contract to the U.S. Department of State are ineligible to apply for a Fulbright award until one year after termination of such employment.
CAASIC Program Information
The CAASIC Program accepts applications for the 2027-2028 Fulbright Arabic Language Study Grants at CAASIC until August 15, 2026. Applicants should apply for and obtain an acceptance to the Fulbright Grants at CAASIC, 9-month Fall and Spring Program option. The acceptance letter must be included in the application to the Fulbright U.S. Student Program.
