Fulbright-Egypt International Education Month Series

This year’s International Education Month Series included 3 Fulbright- Egypt events focusing on the impact of education, training and research in the fields of Humanities, STEM and Vocational Training to encourage the exchange of ideas and facilitate building bridges between Egyptian and American academics and professionals.

A special Fulbright alumni-led session titled, “Reimagining the Humanities Landscape in Egypt: Higher English Proficiency, Better Employability and Effective Participation in the Production of Knowledge”, held at Cairo University as part of the 15th International Symposium on Comparative Literature, was coordinated with the conference Chair, Fulbright Egyptian Scholar alum Dr. Sahar Sobhi and featured the following Fulbright alumni speakers (names are in alphabetical order): Mr. Islam Allosh, Vice Principal for Academic Affairs, Middle East Schools; Dr. Dalia Ebeid, Assistant Professor, Cairo University; Dr. Hoda Hadary, Former Program Director and Lecturer at Ain Shams and the British University in Egypt; Dr. Osama Madani, (Chair) Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Menoufia University; Dr. Samah Said, Deputy Director of the University Performance Development Center, and Chairperson of the Women’s Empowerment Committee, Mansoura University; Mr. Maged Shabana, Manager, Al Azhar University English Training Center, and Ms. Nada Soliman, Assistant Lecturer, Cairo University.

A national roundtable titled, “Sustainability and Renewable Energy”, brought together Fulbright U.S. scholars Dr. Foster A. Agblevor, Fulbright U.S. Distinguished Scholar from Utah State University and Dr. Igor Lyubinetsky, Fulbright U.S. Scholar from Oregon State University in a panel discussion which was moderated by Dr. Walid Al-Zawawi, Secretary of the Council of Research Centers and Institutes at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The event was attended by Fulbright alumni and representatives from the following 21 universities: Ain Shams; Alamein; Alexandria; Badr; Benha; Beni Suef; Egypt-Japan; Fayoum; Helwan; Kafr El-Sheikh; Mansoura; Menoufia; Minya; Port Said; Sohag; South Valley; Suez Canal; Suez; Tanta; Sadat City and Zagazig universities. Guests also came from 9 research institutions: Electronics Research Institution; Egyptian Petroleum Research Institution; National Research Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics; Atomic Energy Authority; Agricultural Research Center; Agricultural Genetic Engineering Research Institute (AGERI); Soils, Water, and Environmental Research Institute (SWERI); Center for Metallurgical Research & Development Institute; and National Institute for Oceanography and Fisheries. In addition, there were 3 government representatives from the Ministry of Environment and the Egyptian Cabinet.

A networking event and Community College Initiative (CCI) information session in collaboration with the Minister of Higher Education’s Advisor on Technical and Vocational Education Dr. Ahmed El Sabbagh hosted presidents representing the following 15 technological universities and colleges: New Cairo; Delta; Assiut; Samanoud; Beni Sueif; Thebes; East Port Said; 6th October and Borg Al Arab technological universities, as well as Matariah; Middle Valley, South Valley; Port Said, Quesna and Mahalah technical colleges. The event was also attended by the Ministry of High Educations’ Technical Colleges Project Manager, Head of the Central Administration for Technical Education Affairs; and vocational education consultants representing Ain Shams and Assiut universities.
