The Commission Celebrates its 65th Anniversary
On February 18th, 2015, the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE) launched its 65th Anniversary celebrations with a Roundtable Discussion titled: “65 Years in Egypt and Beyond: Towards an Egyptian Learning Society.” The discussion moderated by Dr. Tarek Shawki, Chair of the Specialized Presidential Council for Education & Scientific Research & Dean, the School of Sciences and Engineering, American University in Cairo, tackled Egypt’s education challenges and opportunities.
Special guest remarks were given by the members of the Specialized Presidential Council for Education & Scientific Research; Prof. Robert Switzer, Dean of Undergraduate Studies and Director of the Core Curriculum, American University in Cairo, who talked about preparing students for the Egyptian workforce and Ms. Maisa Galal, Human Resources Director, Egypt and North Africa, General Motors Egypt, who provided the corporate perspective regarding issues with education and professional development and its impact on the Egyptian workforce. An honorable group of Egyptian University Presidents participated with their insight.
The Commission’s Chair of the Board Dr. Ashraf Hatem, and board members: Dr Yasser Sakr, President of Helwan University; Mr Adnan Siddiqi Public Affairs Officer at the US embassy; Mr Tom Crehan Director of Education programs at USAID with BFCE Executive Director, Dr. Maggie Nassif, introduced to the Fulbright alumni.
