Egyptian and American Alumni Visit 57357 Hospital for Children with Cancer
On June 24 the Commission’s Alumni Office in collaboration with Egyptian and American Alumni arranged a visit to the 57357 Hospital for Children with Cancer as part of the newly initiated alumni social/ community service program. During her Fulbright grant in AY 2012-2013, Shawn Lent was affiliated with the Egyptian Academy of Arts’ High Institute of Ballet and volunteered at the 57357 Children’s Cancer Hospital Egypt as a dance teaching artist. At the Annual Alumni Reunion last March, Shawn shared her volunteering experience with the alumni and guests. Her impressive and unique work at the hospital encouraged the Commission’s alumni circles to arrange a one day visit and program at the hospital.
The half day program for the nearly 200 kids who attended included: a puppet show, storytelling by alumni and a dancing exercise by Shawn for the kids. The program ended with the distribution of donations of chocolate made by Nestle, juice made by Faragallah and children books made by Nahdet Masr Publishing House as well as books donated by the American Embassy in Cairo. These donations were facilitated by Dr. Lobna Reda, HHH alumna and leader of the HHH Alumni Forum.
