Hubert H. Humphrey (HHH) Alumni Forum Conducts its Seminar, “Religion and State in Contemporary Egypt”
On May 20, the Commission’s HHH Alumni Forum conducted a seminar on “Religion and State in Contemporary Egypt” at the Commission premises, the Villa. Nearly forty alumni and in country American Fulbrighters participated in the seminar. Speakers included prominent figures like Mr. Ibrahim El-Houdaiby, Senior Political Researcher, House of Wisdom Institution who provided the needed historical overview in his talk, “ Shariah and the Modern State: From Institution to Constitution” followed by Dr. Amr Hamzawy, Professor of Political Science, AUC addressing “The Dangers of Un-governability in Egypt.”
HHH alumnus and Judge at Giza Court, Yussef Auf (American University 2011-2012) provided his practical perspective about “Islamic Shariah and the Egyptian Legal System.” Ms. Michelle Ligouri, AY 2012 – 2013 American grantee moderated the discussion. Distinguished HHH alumna and Leader of the HHH Alumni Forum, Dr. Lobna Reda contributed to the organization of the seminar with Ms. Safaa Abbadi, Manager of Alumni Affairs of the Commission. Through these types of activities, the Commission shares the expertise of its alumni with academia and the society and brings together its Egyptian alumni with in-country American grantees.
