“Egypt in the Eyes of Egyptians” Pays Off in American Classrooms
On July 3-22 sixteen American teachers participated in “Egypt in the Eyes of Egyptians,” a Fulbright-Hays Seminar designed to help its participants teach their students about Egypt’s history and society. The seminar is paying dividends in American classrooms. One participant, Mr. Dominic Beggan of Lamar University in Texas, recently noted that the seminar “has fundamentally changed my understanding and knowledge of the Middle East and how I will teach about this region in the future.
I will be using what I have learned to teach a course in the spring on Egyptian/Israeli Politics.” Beggan concluded: “Thank you for one of the most rewarding and fulfilling experiences of my life.” The seminar was conducted by Ms. Safaa Abbadi of the Commission’s staff and Fulbright alumna Dr. Mounira Soliman (New York University 2003-2004) of Cairo University. Kudos well earned to Mounira and Safaa.
