“Egypt in the Eyes of Egyptians” Begins
Sixteen American teachers have reached Egypt to begin the Fulbright-Hays Seminar for 2007. Designated “Egypt in the Eyes of Egyptians,” the seminar will help its participants teach their students about Egypt’s history and society. It will also explain the dynamics of the contemporary Middle East from an Arab, Islamic perspective. Its academic phase will feature presentations on topics salient to the objectives of the seminar. A cultural phase will introduce the participants to Egypt’s rich diversity. A curricular phase will encourage participants to develop projects of hands-on value in their classrooms.
The seminar is conducted by Ms. Safaa Abbadi of the Commission’s staff and Fulbright alumna Dr. Mounira Soliman (New York University, 2003-2004) of Cairo University. Participants hail from Arizona, California, Florida, Illinois, Kansas, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Virginia. To each of them: a warm welcome from the Commission.
