P4T Participants Attend Orientation Program
On May 28-30 the Commission conducted a pre-departure orientation for Egyptian teachers who will participate in the 2007 Partnerships for Teaching (P4T) Program. The orientation included presentations by Dr. Suad Shaker of the Ministry of Education, Ms. Baerbel Schumacher, who participated via teleconference from the University of Delaware, and members of the Commission’s Egyptian Team. P4T alumni, Ms. Samia Girgess Kamel of the Coptic Evangelic School in Minia and Mr. Shadi Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim of the Malawi Secondary School for Girls, also in Minia, shared their experiences from the 2006 program, and AY2006-2007 U.S.
Fulbrighters Anthony Shenoda and Maryann Shenoda presented an introduction to the American educational system. The P4T program sends Egyptian teachers of English as a second language to the University of Delaware for six weeks of professional development. Begun in 2004, the program supports efforts by education ministries in Egypt and other countries to enhance the skills of teachers. Nearly one dozen Egyptians will participate in the 2007 program.
