American Poet Speaks To American Studies Circle
On December 20 Fulbright Egypt’s American Studies Circle gathered to hear Opal Palmer Adisa, an English professor from the California College of the Arts, speak on “The Role of Women Artists in the Caribbean.” Her presentation was preceded by comments from Maha El Said, Fulbright alumna and a professor of poetry at Cairo University. The fourth gathering of the Circle attracted not only American studies specialists and academics but also novelists and artists whose reactions enriched the discussions. The meeting was organized by Fulbright alumnus Osama Madany of Menoufia University. An educator, performer, and storyteller, Adisa is the author of several books, including a novel, It begins With Tears, and a collection of poetry, Caribbean Passion. The American Studies Circle serves as a forum for exchange among the Commission’s American studies alumni and contacts.
