Egyptian Fulbright Alumna Performs At Gomhouria Theatre
On December 16 Dalia Farouk, an alumna of the Commission’s Egyptian Student Program, performed at Cairo’s prestigious Gomhourai Theater. As a 2001-2002 Fulbrighter, Farouk studied voice at Indiana University. Since completing her Fulbright grant, Farouk has been studying for a doctoral degree from at L’Ecole Normal Superieure de Musique de Paris. She returned to Cairo to appear in concert with Heikki Sarmanto, a well-known Finnish composer and pianist. Farouk is currently preparing for the role of Violetta in La Traviata, to be performed at the Cairo Opera House in May and June 2007. A 1997 graduate, with honors, of the Cairo Conservatoire, Farouk also holds a masters degree from the University of California – Los Angeles.
