Egyptian Fulbrighter Reaches Out To Cultural Preservation World

An AY2006-2007 Fulbright Egyptian Student is reaching out to the cultural preservation world in the United States. He is Mr. Said Abd El Hamed Hassan Soliman, Conservator of Antiquities, Supreme Council of Antiquities, who is currently studying in the Getty Conservation Program of the University of California at Los Angeles. On November 22 and 29 Mr. Said spoke to Getty audiences on “The Conservation of Coptic Icons in Egypt.” While affiliated with Dr. David Scott, Director of the Getty Conservation Program, Mr. Said is studying “Scientific and Artistic Fundamentals for Restoration of Painted and Gilded Ornaments on Archaeological Wood.” Through engagements like this, the Commission’s Fulbrighters share their expertise with colleagues in the United States.
