American Fulbright Scholar Lectures At South Valley And Alexandria Universities

 In Uncategorized

On April 29 an American Fulbright Scholar, Jacqueline Thurston, lectured at South Valley University in Qena and at the University’s Fine Arts campus in Luxor. Her presentations, “To Know One Another: Challenges and Opportunities” and “The Nature of Metaphor,” were attended by more than 100 undergraduate students, and were presented in collaboration with an Egyptian Fulbright alumnus, Dr. Abdul Mawgoud R. Dardery of the University’s Faculty of Arts. On April 26, as the guest of an Alexandria University professor, Dr. Faiza Sakr, Professor Thurston gave a presentation on “The Nature of the Creative Process” to approximately 75 university students.

Thurston later said that “these presentations provided me with an opportunity to exchange ideas of substance with my faculty hosts and, most important, with the young men and women of Egypt.” Through visits like this, the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt is able to reach wider and deeper into Egypt’s academic community.
