Egypt’s Fulbright Commission “Sharing the Experience” and Ramadan Iftar
The Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE) hosted a Ramadan Iftar (breaking of the fast) on October 30 in honor of its American grantees. In attendance were the American Embassy’s Public Affairs Officer Haynes Mahoney and Cultural Affairs Officer Elizabeth Thornhill, as well as BFCE’s Executive Director Bruce Lohof. The Iftar was preceded by a “Sharing the Experience” seminar in which three 2004-2005 American students – Lisa Blaydes (UCLA), Christine Hegel (CUNY), and Shauna Huffaker (University of California, Santa Barbara – discussed their Fulbright experience with ten recently arrived 2005-2006 students. The conversation focused on challenges faced – and overcome – while conducting pre-doctoral research in Egypt. Through sessions like “Sharing the Experience,” BFCE is able to ensure that lessons learned by previous grantees are passed on to their successors.
