Fulbright Egypt Team in the U.S., June 2024

Fulbright Commission Executive Directors’ meeting at the NAFSA conference in New Orleans led by Mary Kirk, Director of the Fulbright Program at the Bureau of the Education and Cultural Affairs.

Executive Director Maggie Nassif was honored to attend the 303rd Quarterly Meeting of the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board chaired by Dr. Donna Brazile.

University of Holy Cross President Stanton McNeely welcomes Fulbright Program leadership from the State Department, 20 Commissions from around the world, Fulbright Advisors from campuses across the United States at the Fulbright Institutional Training organized by IIE in New Orleans.

Fulbright Program Deputy Director at the Bureau of Education and Cultural Exchange Steve Money and Fulbright alumni of the IEA Program speak at a panel titled “Connections for Maximum Impact: Fulbright International Education Administrator Awards” at the NAFSA conference in New Orleans.

Fulbright Commission Executive Director Dr. Maggie Nassif, accompanied by Assistant Operations Manager Ms. Manal Faress and Senior Program Officer Ms. Mai Ayyad, visited the headquarters of World Learning and met with U.S. Specialist Program Manager Ms. Emily Ralic-Moore and Program Officer Ms. Shannon Fleming to discuss details of the Fulbright Specialist Program, which brings American experts to Egypt to consult on projects and provide training. The meeting was coordinated by Ms. Cari Graves, Senior Program Officer at the Beuraeau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State.

Executive Director Dr. Maggie Nassif met with U.S. Department of State leadership to discuss ways to grow and develop the Fulbright Program opportunities In Egypt. During the tour in DC, the Egyptian delegation accompanied Ms. Sarah O’Sullivan, Near East Affairs Branch Chief and Ms. Cari Graves, Senior Program Officer at the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State on a visit to the DC headquarters of AMIDEAST where they were welcomed by Ambassador Greta Holtz and met with Program Director Mr. Ayad Zein, Assistant Director Jennifer Schrock and Program Officer Brenda Casteen. Dr. Nassif was accompanied by Assistant Operations Manager Ms. Manal Faress and Senior Program Officer Ms. Mai Ayyad.

Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE) delegation led by Executive Director Dr. Maggie Nassif, accompanied by Assistant Operations Manager Ms. Manal Faress and Senior Program Officer Ms. Mai Ayyad visited the University of Maryland at College Park. The team met with Dr. Stephen Roth, Associate Provost and Dean of the Graduate School; Ms. Susan-Ellis Dougherty, Director of International Student and Scholar Services, and Dr. Joe Scholten, Associate Director of Institute For International Programs to discuss joint efforts to help more American graduate students and scholars travel to Egypt on Fulbright grants and support more Egyptian Fulbrighters in Maryland. The team received a tour of the campus and was impressed by the facilities and offerings at the university.

While in DC, Fulbright-Egypt Assistant Operations Manager Manal Faress and Senior Program Officer Mai Ayyad met with Egyptian Fulbright Students who are pursuing their studies and training in Washington DC. The Fulbright Commission team was delighted to hear the latest news and accomplishments of Nourane Awadalla who is studying International Relations at Johns Hopkins University and currently doing an internship at the World Bank, and of Youmna Atta who is studying Electrical Engineering at George Washington University and focusing on Renewable Energy models.
