Fulbright Egypt hosts the English as a Second Language Meeting

Fulbright Egypt in partnership with Supreme Council of Egyptian Universities and The Regional English Language Officer at the US Embassy in Cairo hosted the English as a Second Language Meeting and Information Session. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Refaat, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Universities and member of the Fulbright Commission Board of Directors, opened the session and presented the Ministry’s plan to develop and internationalize higher education. The event was attended by the team of the Regional English Language Office at the US Embassy. Minister Counselor for Public Affairs, Mr. Ruben Haroutunian, member of the Fulbright Commission Board of Directors, welcomed the attendees, who represented leaders of English language centers and departments from 25 public universities. He expressed his happiness with the partnership with the Supreme Council and the Fulbright Commission and his hope for further cooperation to raise the efficiency of university students in their proficiency in the English language.

The Supreme Council of Universities appointed Dr. Samar Abdelsalam, Professor of English at the Faculty of Alalsun at Ain Shams University, to head the English language Proficiency in higher education task force. Dr. Abdelsalam who is a Fulbright Commission alumna of the Integrated English Language Program (IELP) led the discussion, where participants identified needs and resources and gave recommendations for future collaboration. Also, Mr. Curtis Chan, Regional English Language Officer (RELO) at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and Ms. Hanaa Soudan, English Language Specialist gave a presentation to highlight the programs and resources offered by the RELO to the meeting attendees.

شرفت هيئة فولبرايت مصر بالشراكة مع المجلس الأعلى للجامعات باستضافة إجتماع وندوة تعريفية لممثلي اللغة الإنجليزية من 25 جامعة مصرية. وقام أ.د. مصطفى رفعت الأمين العام للمجلس وعضو مجلس إدارة هيئة فولبرايت بإفتتاح الجلسة وعرض خطة الوزارة لتطوير وتدويل التعليم العالي.

وشارك في الحدث فريق المكتب الإقليمي للغة الإنجليزية بالسفارة الأمريكية. وقام الوزير المفوض للدبلوماسية العامة أ. روبن هاروتنيان وعضو مجلس إدارة هيئة فولبرايت بالترحيب بالحضور الذي مثل قيادات مراكز وأقسام اللغة الإنجليزية من 25 جامعة حكومية. أعرب عن سعادته بالشراكة مع المجلس الأعلى وهيئة فولبرايت وعن أمله للمزيد من التعاون لرفع كفائة الطلاب بالجامعات في إجاده اللغة الإنجليزية.
