Fulbright Alumni Bring American Students to Egypt

 In Uncategorized

Ten undergraduate students from the University of Houston – Clear Lake have participated in a study tour of Egypt. The tour was conducted by two Fulbright alumni, Dr. Everett B. Penn (Cairo University 2004-2005), an associate professor of criminology, and Dr. Mike McMullen (American University in Cairo 2009-2010), a professor of sociology. The program included an evening discussion at the Villa, “Resolving Conflict: Lessons Learned from Strained Relations between Police and Youth in the United States.” The discussion was augmented by a presentation from Hubert H. Humphrey alumnus Dr. Ibrahim Omar (University of Minnesota 2009-2010), a lecturer in international law at the Police Academy in Cairo.

The evening concluded with a rooftop Egyptian dinner at the Villa, where American and Egyptian participants shared their views and expectations of Egypt’s current social, political and cultural challenges. Through events like these, the Commission and its alumni help each other to pursue mutual understanding through mutual educational exchange.
