Fulbrighters Enjoy Seminar on Parliamentary Elections
On December 1 American Fulbrighters gathered at the Villa for a seminar on Egypt’s parliament election and it impact on the country’s political transformation. The seminar featured Mr. Mohammad Nosseir, Chair, Secretariat of International Relations, Democratic Front Party. It was the second in a series of presentations on contemporary politics in Egypt, following on an early November seminar featuring Mr. Hesham Kassem, former publisher of Al Masry Al Youm and Cairo Times. Mohammed Nosseir’s remarks were well received. “… spoke in clear simple terms [of] … conditions as they are, without emotionally changed delivery,” said one Fulbrighter. “… interesting to get the viewpoint of a liberal,” said a second, while suggesting presentations from “other viewpoints,” whether “Islamist, revolutionary or middle bloc….” The seminar was arranged by the Commission’s Cultural and Educational Program, which sponsors site visits, seminars, and other activities to help its American grantees understand Egypt and its culture. The Commission is grateful to Mr. Mohammad.
