U.S. Fulbrighter Conducts Research at Cairo University
Mr. Jacob Scruggs , an alumnus of Pomona College, is conducting research on Arabic poetry. Under the title “Arab Poetry: Speaking to the People,” he is exploring the role of poetry in Egyptian culture. While in Egypt he will be affiliated with Dr. Hussein Hammouda, a professor of Arabic Literature and Criticism in Cairo University’s Faculty of Arts. Mr. Scruggs took his B.A. degree from Pomona in 2011, majoring in English. He is in Egypt under the auspices of the Commission’s U.S. Fulbright Student Program.
