Egyptian Fulbrighter Receives L’Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science

Dr. Rashika El Ridi (Harvard University 1994-1995), a professor of immunology at Cairo University, is one of five scientists worldwide to receive the L’ORÉAL-UNESCO Awards for Women in Science. Dr. Rashika, a member of Cairo University’s Faculty of Science, was cited “for paving the way toward the development of a vaccine against the tropical disease Schistomiasis/Bilharzia. Dr. Gunter Blobel, winner of the 1999 Nobel Prize in Medicine and President of the Life Sciences jury for L’Oréal-UNESCO awards, has said: “For a dozen years, the L’Oréal-UNESCO Awards have recognized and promoted exceptional women who, by the excellence of their research, contribute to the advancement of science.” Congratulations to our alumna Dr. Rashika El Ridi on the occasion of her selection.
