Science Circle Discusses Swine Flu, Avian Influenza
On July 9 the Commission’s Science Circle collaborated with Cairo University to host a seminar on “Swine Flu and Avian Influenza: History, Awareness, Control.” The discussion was led by alumna Dr. Mariam El Deeb (University of Minnesota AY1995-1996), Chairman of the Department of Animal and Poultry Production in Assuit University’s Faculty of Agriculture, and Dr. Mahmoud Riad, Supervisor of Infectious Diseases and Immunology at the National Research Center. The Science Circle is currently led by alumnus Dr. Hani Moubasher (University of California – Davis 2001-2002), Director of Cairo University’s Center for Environmental Hazard Mitigation (CEHM). The circle stays abreast of critical scientific issues, and shares its expertise with alumni and others within the academic community.
