Fulbright Commission, Cairo University, Host American-Egyptian Dialogue
On March 15 the Commission’s Cultural and Educational Program collaborated with Cairo University’s Program for Civilization Studies and Dialogue of Cultures to organize an American-Egypt Dialogue. U.S. Fulbrighters joined graduate and undergraduate students from the University to discuss three sub-topics: external interventions in the Arab world, freedom of expression, and integration of minorities. A general dialogued followed, moderated by Fulbright alumna Dr. Pakinam El Sharkawy, an associate professor of political science. “… a rewarding experience,” said one Fulbrighter. “…would definitely participate again,” said another. Said a third: “I hope this becomes a regular event … I found it very instructive.” The Commission’s Cultural and Educational Program sponsors site visits, lectures, and other activities to help its American grantees understand Egypt and its culture.
