Concert Inaugurates Artists Circle
On December 11 the Commission inaugurated its Artists Circle with a concert at the Villa. The Circle, a group of alumni in the applied and fine arts, is the youngest of several alumni circles established by the Commission. The concert featured four Fulbright alumni: soprano Dalia Farouk (Catholic University, Indiana University, Julliard School of Music 2001-2002), pianist Mohamed Shams (Catholic University 2005-2006) harpist Mona Wassef (University of Arizona 2005-2006), and violinist Yasser El Serafi (Yale University 1996-1997). A fifth alumnus, painter Khaled Hafez (Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts 2004-2005), is the current leader of the Artists Circle.
Guests of honor on the occasion included two members of the Board of Directors,Dr. Abdallah Mohamed Barakat, (Helwan University) and Ms. Elizabeth Khalifa (Institute of International Education), and one of Egypt’s first Fulbrighters, Dr. Adel Gazarin (Massachusetts Institute of Technology 1953).
