Commission Greets New American Fulbrighters with Orientation, Iftar
On September 16 the Commission convened an orientation in honor of its 2007-2008 American Fulbright grantees. The orientation was hosted by Ambassador Francis J. Ricciardone, who spoke to the grantees on “Fulbrighters as Cultural Ambassadors.” Nearly two dozen new American Fulbrighters participated in the program. The highlight of the orientation was a “Sharing the Experience” session featuring three 2006-2007 Fulbright Alumni: Ms. Lorraine Casazza (University of California – Berkeley), Ms. Abigail Hauslohner (University of Michigan), and Mr. Anthony Shenoda (Harvard University). Other sessions featured the Embassy’s Counselor for Public Affairs Haynes Mahoney (“Public Expressions of U.S. Government Foreign Policies and Actions”), Vice Consul Staci Brothers-Jackson (“American Citizen Services: How Can We Help?”), and Regional Medical Officer Kennedy Scott (“How to Stay Healthy in Egypt”). A Ramadan Iftar followed the orientation.
Convened at Cairo’s historic Citadel, the Iftar was graced by four members of the Commission’s Board of Directors: Dr. Ahmed Baha’a El Din Khairy (Ministry of Higher Education), Ms. Elizabeth Khalifa (Institute of International Education), Ms. Helen Lovejoy (U.S. Embassy), and Mr. Thomas Thomason (Sidikrir).
