Supreme Council of Universities Hosts Fulbright-Egypt Team
Secretary General of Supreme Council of Universities (SCU) and Commission Board member Dr. Mostafa Rifat welcomed the Fulbright-Egypt team led by Executive Director Dr. Maggie Nassif accompanied by Assistant Manager Mr. Asser Hany and Senior Program Officer Ms. Noha Salah at the SCU headquarters to meet with the leadership and members of the newly formed Foreign Language Education Committee. The Commission had been working in partnership with Board members: Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ayman Ashour; Mr. Ruben Harutunian, Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Embassy in Cairo and the RELO Office and Dr. Mostafa Rifat at the SCU to support the creation of the Language Education Committee and the work of its members to achieve high proficiency levels in English for Egyptian students in higher education. The team gave an information session on Fulbright opportunities for graduate students and professors with emphasis on the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program. In addition, the SCU will be hosting U.S. specialist in the field of English as a Second Language (ESL) this academic year to assist in formulating its ESL strategy. The team was welcomed by the Co-Chairs of the Committee Dr. Saleh Hashem, Former President of Ain Shams University and Dr. Ola Adel, Vice President of King Salman University in the South Sinai. The meeting was attended by Ain Shams alumna of the Faculty of Language Studies (Al-Alsun) Ambassador Soha Gindy, Former Minister of Immigration. The Fulbright Commission is planning several training opportunities and information sessions around the U.S. Specialist visits and FLTA program alumni activities.
