Ministry of Health and Population Workshop: Grant Opportunities, Proposal Writing and Presentation Skills

On Sunday, July 31, 2022, the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt was honored to partner with the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population under the auspices of His Excellency Minister of Health and Population, Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar to host a virtual workshop titled Grant Opportunities, Proposal Writing and Presentation Skills. The workshop was coordinated with Dr. Ehab Kamal, Assistant Minister of Health for Medical Education and Director of the Princess Fatma Academy for Continuing Medical Education and Fulbright Commission alumnus, Dr. Anwar Ismail, Assistant Minister of Health for National Projects. The purpose of the workshop was to provid training for medical professionals on research proposal writing and presentation skills. Fulbright alumna of the Junior Faculty Development Program (JFDP), Dr. Irene Fahim, Associate Professor at Nile University facilitated a session on Formulating a Research Idea and Writing a Statement of Purpose; Fulbright alumna of the Egyptian Scholar Program, Dr. Mai Tolba, Associate Professor at Ain Shams University spoke on Writing Research Proposals and Dr. Lobna Reda Leadership and Management Consultant provided guidance and useful tips on Presentation Skills.

Dr. Irene Fahim 

Irene Fahim is an Associate Professor at the Industrial and Service Engineering and Management Department at Nile University where she is also the Director of the Smart Engineering Systems Research Center. She won the State Encouragement Award for women (2020), the Hazem Ezzat Research Excellence Award (2021) and the L’Oreal UNESCO for Women in Science Egypt young talents program(2021). She received a grant for Egypt Higher Education Climate change partnerships Grants in collaboration with Nottingham University and the British Council. She also received a grant for capacity building for “Women in Science and Engineering” from IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. Dr. Fahim was selected in 2019 to be among the members of the first scientific council of the Egyptian Young Academy of Sciences (EYAS) as a part of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology (ASRT) to empower and encourage young Egyptian scientists in science and technology. She participated in the Fulbright Junior Faculty Program (2016) and participated in the Entrepreneurship and Leadership Program, 1000Women, Goldman Sachs (2016). She has received the Newton Mosharfa institutional link award for two years in collaboration with Nottingham University, UK for manufacturing plastic bags from natural materials where she got acknowledged by Mr. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi for her work at the 3rd National Youth Conference in Ismailia (April 2017). To watch the session, click here: https://youtu.be/9baGBMNHtwA

 

Dr. Mai Tolba 

Mai Tolba is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Ain Shams University. She was selected as a fellow of Africa Science Leadership Program (ASLP) and an FDA-AACR Oncology fellow 21/22. She is also an elected member of the Global Young Academy (GYA), an affiliate of the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) and an associate member of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). She obtained her Ph.D. (2013) through a joint supervision scholarship between Ain Shams University and the University of Texas Medical branch, Galveston, Texas, USA. Dr. Tolba’s research focuses on studying the mechanisms of resistance of solid tumors to chemotherapy and immunotherapy. She received the Fulbright Scholar Award and the regional L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Levant and Egypt Fellowship. She mentors 15+ graduate scholars in addition to serving in the peer review committee for the regional program L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science, Sub-Saharan Africa. Dr. Tolba has co-authored 30+ publications in the fields of pharmacology and drug discovery that were published in highly prestigious international journals. She was an invited speaker at TEDx Cairo Women 2017. She is the founder of “Cancer and the Castle Guardians,” an online cancer awareness platform on both Instagram and Facebook which aims at providing simple cancer awareness and healthcare advice backed by the latest research, written in both English and Arabic. To watch the session, click here: https://youtu.be/LQDlTxDkTyo

Dr. Lobna Reda 

Lobna Reda is a seasoned Leadership and Management Consultant with over 35 years of management experience in diversified industry, culture and country environments; currently engaged in philanthropic work with several NGOs operating in the fields of women, children, and education. Dr. Reda has offered mentoring and coaching support to several individuals since 2011 ranging from CEOs to fresh graduates. Dr. Reda has combined in her professional career diversified experience in management, consulting and teaching/training, both in Egypt and the United States. Her most recent position was Managing Director of IGI Real Estate, a foremost Egyptian company operating in the complex industry of real estate development. Prior to that, Dr. Reda worked in the United States as Principal – Strategic Planning and Marketing at a prominent architectural firm, OMR, Inc. Dr. Reda received her PhD and her MALD from the Fletcher School, Tufts University in 1998 and 1990, respectively. She received her MBA from the American University in Cairo in 1986 and her B.Sc. from the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University in 1979.
