Fulbright Commission Hosts Egyptian University Leadership Program

 In 70th anniversary

Hurghada – The Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE) hosted a three-day meeting from December 14 to 16, 2018 at the Baron Palace Hotel in Sahl Hasheesh, Hurghada, which was attended by 10 university Presidents and 12 university Vice Presidents, who were joined by leadership from the Ministry of Higher Education, Supreme Council of Private Universities, the Academy of Scientific Research and the National Research Center.

The event which was led by Dr. John Sexton, President Emeritus of New York University (NYU) was organized by the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt’s team to mark the 70th anniversary of the prestigious Fulbright Program in Egypt. Dr. Sexton shared his experience on how he led NYU to become a Global Network University, with 11 international academic centers on six continents and degree-granting campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai. President Emeritus Sexton had started his career as a Clerk at the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals. He also serves as the Chair of the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Among the main topics that were discussed were: Globalization; Alumni Engagement; R&D Culture; Intellectual Property; and Linking Academics to Industry which were outlined by the speaker in his opening talk entitled “Universities and their Constituents in a Globalized World.”

William Fulbright to “bring a little more knowledge, a little more reason, and a little more compassion to world affairs.” BFCE is the largest and oldest Fulbright Commission in the Arab World and the Middle East and North Africa region.
