Roundtable on Internationalizing Campuses: The Global Education Consortia Model
On January 29, 2018, the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt hosted a roundtable with Ms. Robin Lerner, CEO of Texas International Consortium who spoke about efforts to internationalize university campuses in the US and prepare students for the global workforce. Dr. Ehab Abouaish, Dean of the Cairo University Business School and BFCE alumnus served as discussant and shared his experience as the Director of the Cairo University/Georgia State University joint program. The event was attended by members of the Fulbright Board: Ms. Helen Lafave, Minister-Counselor for Public Affairs, the U.S. Embassy and Ms. Katie Donohoe, Director, Office of Education and Health, USAID/Egypt, Fulbright alumni, advisors to the Minister of Higher Education, university presidents, vice presidents and international office representatives.The Commission was honored with the presence of Ms. Dorothy Shea, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US embassy in Cairo.
On January 30th, Ms. Lerner and Dr. Maggie Nassif, Fulbright Director, paid visits to His Excellency, Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Khaled Abdelghaffar and His Excellency, Dr. Tarek Showky, Minister of Education to discuss Egyptian student needs and opportunities for collaboration in various fields such as: teacher professional development, ESL, nursing and energy. Ms. Lerner presented to the ministers and their advisors the online offerings and distance learning options that the consortium offers.
