Production of Knowledge Roundtable: The Middle East Studies Association (MESA) Conference

On November 20th,2017, BFCE’s Executive Director, Dr. Maggie Nassif chaired a roundtable at the Middle East Studies Association (MESA) Conference held in Washington D.C., which featured two prominent Fulbright alumni: Dr. Ehab AbouAish, Dean of Faculty of Business at Cairo University and Dr. Amr Elatreby, Egypt’s Cultural Counselor in Vienna and Former Dean of Faculty of Commerce at Ain Shams University. The roundtable examined models of joint degrees at dual programs such as the Cairo University/Georgia State Program and the Ain Shams/Ocean College Program. The BFCE alumni were joined by their partners in the US: Dean Jacoby Boers, from Georgia State University, Dean Maysa Abou Youssef Hayward and President Jon Larson from Ocean College.

The roundtable also featured, Ms. Ranya Rashed, Director of Programs at BFCE, Ms. Kit Bartels, Near East Branch Chief and Ms. Jamie Sharp, Senior Program Officer, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, U.S. Department of State. In addition, Dr. Mohamed Hamza, BFCE alumnus and Egypt’s Cultural Counselor in D.C. gave an overview of Egypt’s strategic international partnerships in the academic arena. The discussion was followed by the 2nd Annual Fulbright Alumni Reception at MESA hosted by ECA. This annual event provides a good opportunity to connect with the Commission’s U.S. based alumni and boost enrollment for the MENA region Fulbright applications.
