U.S. Fulbright Scholar Conducts Research at Cairo University
Dr. Meriam Belli, an assistant professor of history at University of Iowa, has begun research in Egypt while affiliated with Cairo University. Dr. Belli is pursuing her interest in “A Tale of Three Municipalities: urban space in the late 19th-early 20th century Middle East,” a study that focuses on urbanization in Ismailia, Port Said, and Suez. Educated in France, Dr. Belli took her Ph.D. degree from Georgetown University in 2005. Her recent publications have appeared in the Encyclopedia of the Modern World and Egypte/Monde Arabe. While at Cairo University she will be affiliated with Dr. Muhammed Al Affifi of the University’s Faculty of Arts. The Commission extends a warm welcome to Meriam.
