American Fulbrighters Tour Coptic, Islamic Cairo

 In Uncategorized

On September 30 American Fulbright grantees and their family members enjoyed a walking tour of Coptic and Islamic Cairo. The program was sponsored by the Commission’s Culture and Education Program, and conducted by Dr. Chahinda Karim, Professor of Islamic Art and Architecture, American University in Cairo. It included visits to the Hanging Church, St. Sergius Church, the Ben Ezra Synagogue, Sultan Hassan and El Refaie Mosques, and a walk through El Muizz Street. One Fulbrighter commented: “I thought that our conversation in the Fatimid mosque was candid, informative, stimulating, and delightful.” Another Fulbrighter said that it was “one of the most enlightening, enjoyable, and memorable walking tours I have had in a long time!” Through its Culture and Education Program, the Commission helps its American grantees understand Egypt and its culture.
