Egyptian Fulbright Alumnus Conducts Cairo Symphony Orchestra
On November 10,Yasser El Serafi, an alumnus of the Commission’s Egyptian Scholar Program, conducted the Cairo Symphony Orchestra. Under Yasser’s direction, the Orchestra played Maurice Ravel’s “Le Tombeau de Couperin” and “Symphony No. 4 in A Major” by F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. As an AY1997-1998 Fulbrighter, Yasser studied violin with Erick Friedman at Yale University. In appearing in concert at the Cairo Opera House, Yasser helped to showcase the Commission’s contribution to the cultural life of Egypt.
