Egypt’s Fulbright Commission Greets New American Fulbrighters with Orientation, Iftar
On October 15 the Commission hosted an orientation in honor of its 2006-2007 American Fulbright grantees. Nearly three dozen new American Fulbrighters participated in the program, which was followed by a Ramadan Iftar (breaking of the fast). The highlight of the orientation was a “Sharing the Experience” session featuring three 2005-2006 Fulbright Alumni: Mona Atia (University of Washington), James Grippo (University of California – Santa Barbara), and Jennifer Pruitt (Harvard University). Other sessions featured the American Embassy’s Information Officer John Berry (“Fulbrighters: an Arm of Public Diplomacy”) and American Citizen Services Officer Staci Brothers-Jackson (“American Citizen Services: How Can We Help?”).
The new Fulbrighters were joined by four members of the Commission’s Board of Directors: Abdallah Barakat of the Supreme Council of Universities, John Groarke of USAID, Elizabeth B. Khalifa of the Institute of International Education, and Helen Lovejoy of the American Embassy. During the Iftar that followed, one grantee said that “It was nice to … meet the other Fulbrighters and to learn about resources for all our needs.” Said another “The orientation was great … informative and enjoyable.”
