Egyptian Fulbright Alumnus Performs At Cairo Opera House
On February 11 Wael Farouk, an alumnus of the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt’s Egyptian Scholar Program, performed at Cairo’s prestigious Cairo Opera House. Together with the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, Wael played the “Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in A Minor” by the well-known Egyptian composer, Adel Afifi. As an AY2002-2003 Fulbrighter, Wael studied piano at Catholic University. He subsequently assumed studies at Converse College, where he is currently working toward an M.A. degree. A second Fulbrighter is studying piano at Catholic University. He is Mohammed Shams el-Din, an AY2005-2006 grantee from the Egyptian Conservatory, Academy of Arts. In appearing in concert at the Cairo Opera House, Wael helped to showcase the Commission’s contribution to the cultural life of Egypt.
