FULBRIGHT COMMISSION HOSTS SCIENCE DAY CELEBRATION

The Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE) hosted an event to celebrate the successful conclusion of the Science Day at the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh. The event was led by BFCE Chair of the Board and Minister of Higher Education H.E. Prof. Ayman Ashour, and Prof. Haitham Hamza, BFCE Board member and Head of the Egyptian Missions Section at the Ministry of Higher Education.

19 university Presidents joined the celebration, representing the following universities: Ain Shams, Alexandria, Tanta, Helwan, Port Said, Suez, Suez Canal, Beni Sueif, Benha, El Galala, King Salman, Sadat City, Al Arish, Damanhour, Kafr El Shiekh, Menoufia, Luxor, New Valley, Misr University for Science and Technology in addition to the Acting President of the National Research Center and the Vice Presidents of Cairo, Helwan and Ain Shams universities.

The event was attended by Fulbright alumni who participated at COP27. Guests included the COP27 Science Day Coordinator and President of the Academy of Science and Technology, Prof. Mahmoud Sakr, Deputy Minister of Higher Education for Research, Prof. Yasser Refaat and professors and administrators from Egyptian universities who were welcomed by Dr. Maggie Nassif, Executive Director and the Fulbright Egypt team.

The Fulbright team was accompanied by Prof. Rameshwar S. Kanwar, C. F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor, Iowa State University and U.S. Specialist to Egypt nominee to the Center for Applied Research on Environment and Sustainability (CARES) at the American University in Cairo who spoke on Mangroves as a Nature-Based Solution to Climate Change.
