Accessibility and Inclusion for Students and Scholars with Disabilities in Education and Employment: A Fulbright Online Symposium

On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, the Binational Fulbright Commission in Egypt (BFCE) hosted an online symposium entitled, “Accessibility and Inclusion for Students and Scholars with Disabilities in Education and Employment.” The symposium featured talks by notable speakers and partners over three panels:

The 1st Panel on Opportunities in Higher Education and Employment included talks by: Mr. David Levine, Senior Manager and Disability Coordinator at the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Exchange of the U.S. Department of State; Mr. Mohamed Shelbaya, Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo Egypt; and Mr. Ahmed Hamdy, Program Associate at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and Fulbright FLTA Program alumnus. The 2nd Panel on Recent Partnerships and Initiatives in Egypt featured Fulbright Egyptian Scholar Program alumnus, Dr. Ashraf Marei, Executive Director of the National Council for Disability Affairs; Ms. Amena Elsaeiy, CEO of Helm Egypt; and Ms. Quincy Dermody, Chief of Party of AMIDEAST Egypt Local Scholarship Program. The 3rd and final Panel on Resources for Physical and Digital Inclusion showcased the work of Fulbright Egyptian Scholar Program nominee, Dr. Ibrahim Emara, Lecturer at Media Department at Tanta University; and Ms. Emily Shyrock, Assistant Director of the Services for Students with Disabilities Office at the University of Texas at Austin. The event concluded with a brief presentation on Fulbright opportunities for Egyptian and American nationals by Ms. Mai Ayyad, Fulbright Program Officer.
